Apple Fritters Recipe

Golden, crispy, and filled with juicy apples, these fritters are a delightful treat! A simple glaze adds the perfect touch of sweetness to this classic recipe.

Ingredients

For the Fritters:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and diced small)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to prevent apples from browning)
  • 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3–4 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Apples

  1. Dice the apples into small pieces and toss them with lemon juice. Set aside.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

Step 3: Mix the Wet Ingredients

  1. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 4: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  1. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.

Step 5: Fry the Fritters

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Scoop about 1/4 cup of batter per fritter into the hot oil, flattening slightly with the back of a spoon. Fry 2–3 fritters at a time to avoid overcrowding.
  3. Cook for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

Step 6: Make the Glaze

  1. In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 7: Glaze the Fritters

  1. Once the fritters have cooled slightly, dip them in the glaze or drizzle it over the top. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.

Tips:

  • Use Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples for the best balance of tartness and sweetness.
  • Serve warm for maximum flavor and texture.
  • Sprinkle with extra cinnamon sugar for an added touch.
